Baisley Raised More Questions Than Answers in First Senate Debate
Baisley said he wants to get government out of healthcare, replace Social Security with Trump accounts
Baisley also refused to say if he disagreed with any of Trump’s extreme agenda, if he’d support ending war with Iran
COLORADO – Today, in the first of two General Election U.S. Senate debates in Colorado, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper called out State Senator Mark Baisley’s extreme record and unwavering support for President Trump’s broken agenda on the debate stage.
Meanwhile, Mark Baisley proposed removing government from our healthcare system entirely but didn’t explain how he’d specifically rip healthcare away from millions of Americans who rely on Medicare and Medicaid.
In response to a question about the solvency of Social Security, Baisley suggested replacing Social Security with the Trump Savings Accounts. He didn’t explain how his plan would undermine the financial security of millions of seniors.
“We do need to think long term about how are we going to replace this Social Security system, which wasn’t put together mathematically in a very good way in the first place, so I think the Trump accounts model is what we do,” said Baisley.

Hickenlooper contrasted his fight to end the president’s costly war and lower prices with Baisley’s blind backing of Trump’s war.
“President Trump started this war without a clear plan of what was gonna come,” said Hickenlooper. “Mr. Baisley supports this war, thinks it’s ‘worth the pain.’”
Hickenlooper also pushed back on President Trump’s violent immigration crackdown and Baisley’s support for ICE.
“ICE is pulling people over. They have no warrant. They’ll pull cars over, drag people out of the cars, beat them on the street. They’ll shoot them. They’ll shoot innocent protesters while that’s going on and there’s no restraint. They wear masks, they have no body cameras. This is like a secret police force,” said Hickenlooper.
Hickenlooper will take on Baisley for their final debate this Wednesday at MSU Denver.
In case you missed it, Hickenlooper’s campaign recently dropped their ad, “Worth,” highlighting how President Trump’s war with Iran has increased prices and how his opponent believes the war is worth all the cost.
