America Has a Health Emergency

“My kids will die.”

Those are words no parent should ever have to say, especially in the wealthiest country on Earth. But that’s what Jamie, an adoptive mother of five children with disabilities who relies on Medicaid, told us this week when we visited Tepeyac Health Center in Denver.

Medicaid stopped paying for medically necessary in-home care for two of Jamie’s children earlier this year.

“We’re fighting, and it is medically necessary,” she said. Unfortunately, she is not alone.

Across Colorado, families are facing a healthcare emergency. An estimated 240,000 Coloradans are at risk of losing coverage because of President Trump’s cruel agenda. Nationwide, millions more could lose access to care in the coming years.

Last year, MAGA Republicans passed the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ which made the largest cuts to Medicaid in history. Tens of thousands of children could soon lose their health insurance, all so billionaires could receive another massive tax cut.

Affordable Care Act (ACA) premiums have climbed by over 50% on average this year while deductibles have surged to record highs, increasing by more than $1,000 on average.

It’s cruel. It’s inhumane. It’s just plain wrong.

We’ve seen the impacts up close and it’s heartbreaking.

This week, we joined healthcare advocates on the Protect Our Care Sick of It Bus Tour to raise awareness and fight back against this cruelty. Because Coloradans and Americans all across the country are sick of getting sick and not being able to afford or access care.

We’ve traveled across Colorado hearing from those hardest hit by these policies and we’re bringing their stories back to Washington to fight for change.

During our visit to Tepeyac, we also heard from a Coloradan who left his job just so he could maintain his healthcare eligibility. It’s outrageous.

None of this should be happening. Period.

Coloradans deserve a healthcare system that’s accessible, affordable, and universal.

That’s what we’re fighting for. And we won’t stop fighting until these cuts are reversed and Coloradans get the care they deserve no matter who they are, where they are, or what they need.
